How to paint realistic BELL PEPPERS in watercolor

 

Hello, lovely friends. Welcome back! 

Have you started noticing some change in the weather lately? I certainly feel the difference in air and the days are getting shorter too. The fall season is officially starting on 23 ^rd  this month! 

Now moving forward with the series, today I have bell peppers/capsicum in watercolor for you all. 

I love how the different colors create a harmonious balance in the photograph I took.

The watercolors used are

1.   Lemon yellow

2.   Cadmium yellow

3.   Cadmium red

4.   Indigo blue

5.   Sap green

So let’s get started!

 

 

PART 1- YELLOW PEPPER

Step 1 . Give a wash of clear water to the yellow pepper area and drop in a little amount of lemon yellow. 

 

 

Step 2 . Once the sheet is partially dried, drop in a little amount of cadmium yellow on the mid-tone areas.

 

Step 3 . Now go ahead and drop in some cadmium red on the shadow areas while the sheet is still wet so that the colors blend well together.

 

PART 2- RED PEPPER

Step 1 . Give a light wash of cadmium red as shown below.

 

Important: Carefully leave all the white highlights untouched. These highlights are really important to make the pepper look shiny in the end. 

Step 2 . Now drop in indigo blue on the shadow areas. 

 

Step 3 . Repeat with another layer of cadmium red to make it look brighter. 

 

PART 3- GREEN PEPPER and STEMS

Step 1.  Give a light wash of lemon yellow on both the green bell pepper and the stems.

 

Step 2 . Mix some indigo blue to sap green to make a darker shade of green.

 

 

Step 3 . Add a thin layer of sap green as shown below.

 

Step 4 . Apply a light wash of lemon yellow to the seeds. 

 

Step 5 . Now just build up the above layers for the right saturation. 

Go ahead and tone down the highlights wherever needed. Simply add a light wash of body color on the highlights. 

So here we have all the colorful bell peppers sitting in harmony together.
